These
words drive the partnership between SPES
Construction and Holcim. The two companies
worked hand-in-hand to build Walter Mart in
San Fernando, Pampanga.
Founded by Engr. Honor Mendoza in the
‘90s, SPES Construction remains a trusted
contractor up to this day. It started from small-
scale projects such as interior fit-outs, which
include fast food outlet Burger King and Kenny
Rogers. Malls, condominiums and commercial
buildings are among the large-scale projects
that the company has ventured into.
Engr. Arnold Aguas, assistant project
manager of SPES Construction’s Walter Mart
project, shares, “Our company’s vision is to
be known in the construction (industry) by
completing projects as fast as we could.” The
efficient return of investment is also a priority.
“Nowadays, there are a lot of construction
companies. Our edge is we deliver what we
promise during the bidding (and during) the
negotiation process in most of our projects.”
“This one is called a community mall. It
can cater to the needs of the people by giving
them a place to dine and shop. It’s also very
aggressive in its expansion,” explains Engr.
Aguas, referring to the newly opened branch of
Walter Mart. “We started the construction last
March 2010 and have turned over the project. It
has been operational since November 2010,” he
adds. “Many were not convinced last year that
we will be opening in November; but when we
did, it was successful.” SPES Construction was
able to efficiently meet the client’s demands,
thereby earning their trust.
Partnership with Holcim
“We’ve established a good relationship
with our clients,” says Engr. Aguas. “We
scrutinize every project given to us and we’d like
to give the clients our expertise.” He
also shares how their clients are always
customer-oriented.
The same thing holds true for their project
with Walter Mart, where convenience on the
customer’s part is a top priority.
SPES Construction’s relationship with
their clients also reflects the smooth-sailing
partnership they have with their supplier, Holcim
Philippines, Inc. It was in the year 2005 that
SPES Construction started using Holcim and
discovered a reliable partner in it. This explains
