THE CYCLING
MOVEMENT
At the moment, bike advocacy has
a long way to go before [we] can
bike safely and have clean air in
metro streets,” says Jun Salaveria,
president of CYCAD Philippines, a
group that “espouses cycling as a
low-cost, healthy, non-polluting,
alternative mode of transportation for
the Philippines.” CYCAD was formed in
1996
and has since been taking people
for a ride” in their annual Century
Ride. With other groups such as The
Firefly Brigade, Montalban Cycling
Club and Makati Cycling Federation,
they also organize the
Araw ng Siklista
(
Day of the Cyclist), now on its third

around Metro Manila’s 16 cities while
promoting bike-safe streets, clean air
and a livable future.
While there are many bike advocacy

important things at Points A and B than
there are during the points in between.
