WELCOME RESPITE
"
Davao is my mom’s hometown; I’ve been going there since I was a child. Now my 'haven', I
visit whenever I feel tired, overworked or stressed. What I love most are the beautiful beaches
—
one of them is just be 30 minutes away from the city. It’s so accessible and affordable,
especially if you want to relax, swim and have a good time. I’ve been to Pearl Farm, Chema’s
by the Sea and Paradise Island Park & Beach Resort. We’ve also gone island-hopping
around Samal and swimming beside Hagimit. It was mind-blowing!"
BEACH ADDICT
"
For my college graduation celebration in
2008,
my family and I went to Boracay.
As someone who loves the beach, it was
a real treat. We had meals by the sea, I
laid down on the sand and enjoyed the
breeze. I had a henna tattoo as well. We
played frisbee with the locals by the shore
and rented some jetskis to ride under the
bright sun."
ISLAND PARADISE
"
To get to Apulit Island, Palawan, we rode
a plane for 90 minutes, a jeepney for 30
minutes from the airport to the dock and
a boat for 45 minutes. But it was all worth
it! The cottage we stayed in was above the
sea itself. When we went swimming, we
were accompanied by blacktip baby sharks
and other sea creatures. And when we
were walking from the clubhouse back to
our cottage, a
bayawak
even crossed our
path. The island’s beauty relaxes me."
WET AND WILD
"
Subic last August was memorable and
fun. We were thrilled to see the animals
perform for us in Ocean Adventure — the
sea lions jumped, danced, played and
interacted with us and their instructors;
they were adorable. We also went to the
beach and tried skimboarding."
TWICE THE FUN
"
I first went to Singapore in 2010, when
I did a solo show at Movida at St James
Powerstation. I won’t forget it because I
was trembling backstage, since I only had a
drummer and bassist with me. But the fans
were very kind and appreciative, so my
fear soon turned to enjoyment. The second
was in 2011 at the Singapore BookFest,
where I was the only Filipino performer."
QUIET TIME
"
When we went to Baguio for a show last
April, we stayed in a simple yet beautiful
hotel with dining tables on a balcony
overlooking the busy streets. We had a lot
of fun exchanging stories while enjoying
the cool weather of the city."
