DON’T BE SUCH A
TRAVEL POOPER
These digestive tract-
friendly food tips will keep
you comfortable when you
travel the distance
CHEST OPENER
While seated, clasp your hands behind your
back. Lean forward, then straighten both arms
while keeping your palms pressed into each
other. Stay for three to five breath cycles.
UPPER BACK STRETCH
Lace your fingers together, then press your
palms forward while straightening your arms.
Stay for two to three breath cycles, then
draw palms upwards for an overhead stretch.
Stay for two to three breath cycles, then
gently twist to the right, staying for the same
count as the previous stretches, then gently
make your way to the left side. Twists help in
cleansing your digestive tract.
FIGURE 4
While seated, cross your right ankle over
your left thigh (keep your right foot flexed to
protect your right knee), then lean forward.
Hold for three to five breaths, return to center,
then repeat with the left ankle on your right
thigh. This is a great stretch to prevent your
hips from getting tight, especially on long-
haul flights.
Flying in a pressurized cabin can do a
number on your digestion, which is why
people tend to get constipated after a long
flight. Here are a few guidelines to keep
your gastro-intestinal tract in good working
order when you touchdown.
1
HYDRATE PRE-FLIGHT
Constipation is due to
dehydration, so make sure to
drink lots of water before you
board. Keep it flowing while
inflight, aim to down 8oz
every hour you are in flight.
2
PICK BROWN OVER WHITE
Fiber makes you move, so
pick whole-grain carbs over
their refined, white flour
cousins. Whole-grain
breads, pasta and
brown rice will all help
provide the necessary
roughage to produce healthy stool.
3
SIP SOME PEPPERMINT HERBAL TEA
This tasty blend of tea
is a sure antidote to
constipation, and will get
you going in no time.
4
HAVE A SPOONFUL OF SUGAR
Take a tip from Mary Poppins
and go for the real stuff —
at just 16 calories, a
teaspoon of sugar is the
answer to treating diarrhea
caused by too much
artificial sweetener.
Green and clean meetings
Hilton Worldwide launches a carbon-offset program for events
and meetings at select properties across South-East Asia
Any opportunity to clear an environmental conscience is always welcome, right? At no extra cost to
clients, Hilton Worldwide will measure carbon generated by all events at 11 properties in Malaysia,
Singapore and Thailand, and purchase carbon credits to offset environmental impact. The carbon
credits will be used to fund the Borneo Rainforest Rehabilitation Project and Cambodia Cookstove
Project. Hilton Worldwide kicked off the program last month, using their LightStay Meeting Impact
Calculator to track and measure carbon emissions from each event held. The five-year goal? They
aim to reduce total waste output by 20 percent. The Conrad Centennial Singapore, DoubleTree by
Hilton Kuala Lumpur and Millennium Hilton Bangkok are among the participating properties.
