DAY 3
It’s a day to indulge in all cravings —
think massages, shopping and food.
Take a jeepney to the nearby Pedro
Calungsod Alternative Healing Center
(
Patria de Cebu Building, Burgos Street,
Cebu across the Cebu Cathedral
).
They
open at 9.30am every day and this is
when they begin taking names for the
day’s list. Be sure to arrive early — with
your own face towel and massage
oil — as the list fills up quickly. The
therapists do not charge a fee and
instead rely donations (PHP100 is
considered generous).
You can grab lunch across the street,
behind the Fuente Police Station. The
famous barbecue strip Larsian has been
re-imagined for a new generation: a
central grill for all stalls is positioned
away from the dining area and uses
smokeless charcoal briquettes made
from forest twigs and carbonized coco
shells. My favorite is Joy BBQ at Stall
41,
serving slivers of barbecued pork
(
PHP6). For maximum local market
experience, eat with your hands.
For shopping lovers seeking
retail therapy, handcrafted fashion
accessories from Mactan-based
exporter Avatar are stocked at the
Bellavista Hotel
(
ML Quezon Highway,
Pusok, Lapu-lapu City, Mactan; tel:
+63 32 340 7821,
