A FOOT MASSAGE PLACE
WITH SWAGGER
What do you get when a nightlife impresario
creates his own spa? For Gilbert Yeung — whose
business resumé includes the world-famous club
“dragon-i” in Hong Kong — the result is “ten feet
tall,” a classy foot massage center. The 8,000ft²
venue at L Place features signature rooms for
treatments that range from foot reflexology and
shoulder and neck massages, to pressure point
and aromatic oil massages. Yeung’s style is evident
in the beach cabanas made with pine, bamboo and
natural marble, and the “island chic” interiors inspired
by St. Bart’s in the Caribbean. There’s also a juice bar
designed in a lemon-colored glass box, and a spa that looks
sunny thanks to lighting by Isometrix. Now who wouldn’t feel 10ft tall in a place like this?

LOOKING FOR
ideas on how to keep the
brood busy this month? Check out the
ACE! Festival — 24 days of celebrating,
promoting, inspiring and stimulating artistry
in families with children aged two to 18.
The homegrown festival was founded
in 2009, based on I Theatre’s vision to
provide a platform for individuals and
groups to showcase their creativity
in Singapore. This year’s theme is
“Explorations,” and the event will take
place at the new Goodman Arts Centre
and Alliance Française Theatre.
It will feature 135 shows — a mix of
workshops, a mini carnival, and local
and international productions of much-
loved children’s stories such as
The Little
Mermaid
(May 18–27) and
The Owl who
was Afraid of the Dark
(June 5–10). These
famous tales are retold through energetic
physical theater, object puppetry, light and
shadow.
Meanwhile, kids can choose from clay
hands-on, clay free play, and other pottery
sessions that will teach them how to form
cartoon animals and shapes. There’s also
batik

(no previous painting experience required),
a creative movement class to allow
the young ones to express themselves
better, and a session of turning trash into
recyclable art.

A CHICHI LITTLE
ART GALLERY
Simon Lee Gallery in London, which specializes
in contemporary art, debuted its first gallery in
Asia last month at Hong Kong’s historic Pedder
Building. The new space introduces outstanding
European and North American artists to private,
institutional and corporate collectors in the region.
Catch the inaugural exhibit on May 15, which
features renowned American artist Sherrie Levine. Levine
has exhibited at some prestigious institutions globally,
including a solo at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New
York. It’s her first show in Asia, and it will coincide with the Hong Kong International Art Fair.
Aside from Levine, Simon Lee has also represented and exhibited other artists of international
standing, such as Bernard Frize, George Condo, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Christopher Wool.
