Nowadays, it is the sprawling
400 sq km Angkor Archaeological
Park, where Angkor Wat and the other
temple remains of the ancient Khmer
Empire stand. Within these historically
rich and centuries-old ruins, it’s easy
to think that quiet, almost magical
moments are as everyday as the
sunrise. But in recent decades, with the
steady flood of tourists to this UNESCO
World Heritage Site, this vision is
getting farther from reality — and so a
shift in perspective is in order.
