Beach trips aren’t the exclusive
pleasure of sunny days — find out
what’s on in Boracay after summer
Love the
low season
WHEN
the wind starts blowing in another
direction and the monsoon rains fall more
often at your favorite beach destination,
visitor traffic thins out and things start
slowing down. Merchants call this the
low season, when some of them think
that it’s not even worth the effort to keep
their establishments open. They usually
board up their shops and go on vacation
themselves. In Boracay, the advent of
downtime (from June to October, turning
the once-calm waters choppy) usually
means one thing: your beach paradise sans
the summer crowd. Here’s how to get a
high during the low season on the island.

Live it up
This time of year offers discounted
rates at swanky digs, so treat yourself to
a luxury beach retreat without breaking
the bank. From June 16 to October 15,
Discovery Shores offers its Beach Bliss
package, a great beach bargain that’s
become a yearly tradition for some. At
PHP14,000 net of taxes, it includes a
three-day, two-night stay in a junior
suite, land and boat transfers, daily buffet
breakfast, one free lunch and one free
dinner.

Chill out
Enjoy a wonderfully unobstructed
view of the sunset from a cozy lounge
seat at Kasbah, right beside Discovery
Shores. The colorful Moroccan restaurant
serves hearty servings of kebab along
with perfectly chilled beer or cocktails,
and stages live music for the Kasbah
Sunset Sessions. Previous acts include the
legendary Pepe Smith, Megan Aguilar and
Nyco Maca. Check out their website to find
out who’s performing next.
