TRAVELING CAN BE
one of the most
rewarding experiences of your life;
and like any key moment in your life,
a big trip requires planning, research
and imagination. (Even just a little can
go a long way.) So arm yourself with
valuable information, the right attitude
and a sense of adventure — and your
travels are bound to be rewarding. Bon
voyage!
1
Pick a date.
A trip, especially a
long one to a faraway destination,
should start with your ideal dates. Do
they coincide with major holidays?
Popular destinations draw in large
crowds during long breaks, wherein
prices skyrocket. Rule of thumb: if
it’s possible, plan at least three to six
months in advance to enjoy the best
rates for flights and accommodations.
2
Go online.
Say goodbye to
kilometric queues and book your
ticket online, where you can monitor
the cheapest fares and compare
different flights at click-button speed.
Cebu Pacific offers their best deals
online — you can save around 20 to
100 percent more on promo fares. (To

“Our system automatically stores
all your information. You are already
three steps ahead of the others because
the system simply pulls up all your
information, and there’s no need to
type again the next time you book,”
says Mary Joy Rosete of Cebu Pacific.
“The best thing about it is you get that
promo fare before anyone else.”
3
Do your research.
There are
lots of great travel resources on
the Internet, and not just for booking
your plane ticket. Sites like Agoda.
com provide a slew of accommodation
choices for every budget — plus they
give discounts only available online. It’s
also helpful to check out travel sites like
TripAdvisor.com for first-hand accounts
of stays in hotels and resorts.
4
Listen to the locals.
Apart from
knowing the basics like the
weather (so you’ll know what to bring
and how to pack), the exchange rate
(for an idea of how to get the most bang
for of your buck), the culture, a bit of
history, some key words or phrases
(so you can get around with relative
ease), ask a local provide you with
essential information such as the local
practices on tipping, taxi rates, and
other inside tips only they would know.
You can also check out local travel
websites for additional information
— a great one for the Philippines is
Travelbook.ph.
5
Get organized.
On your computer
desktop or phone, put everything
related to a particular trip into one
folder — notes, links to websites and
downloaded forms. For important
documents such as visas, keep
photocopies in a travel-sized envelope
that you can bring in your carry-on.
