TOUCHDOWN
One arrives in Negros through
the Bacolod-Silay airport in Silay City. That’s
about 15km northeast of Bacolod City, or about a
30-minute drive if there are no traffic jams. There
are plenty of tricycles.
BY DAY
Park in front of the Capitol building in the
morning and join the crowd for “Hataw” exercises
with music and guides. While at the Capitol
grounds, you can visit the nearby Negros Museum
to learn more about the Negrenses’ history.
BY NIGHT
Visit The Ruins, the “Taj Majal” of
Negros, in Talisay City and check out the mansion
ruins with its grand design and spectacular lights.
Then have dinner at Enting’s Special of Sagay, a
spacious, open-air restaurant.
SLEEP
At L’Fisher Chalet on 14th Lacson St.,
the rates are relatively cheap. They have free
breakfast, Wi-Fi and access to the roof deck

There are taxi services available
from PHP300 upwards. You can also hire
metered cabs right outside the airport. It’s a 30- to
45-minute ride to the city. Within the city, there
are tricycles and jeepneys.
BY DAY
If you have plenty of time, visit the Miag-
ao Church in Iloilo. This UNESCO World Heritage
Site with Baroque architecture is approximately
one hour away from the Iloilo City proper. Visit the
Museo Iloilo too.
BY NIGHT
Cap the night off with a bottle or two
at Smallville. This is one of the most popular
nightspots in Iloilo, located along Benigno Aquino
Ave. (commonly known as Diversion Road) in the
Mandurriao District.

There are plenty of nice and affordable
hotels and inns in Iloilo, but Ong Bun Pension
