A few useful tips to make
more room in your
luggage
Don’t fold, roll it
Rolling your clothes takes
up less space, so you’re able to squeeze
more pieces into your bag.
Select “multihyphenate” products
Think
shampoo-conditioner, shampoo-body
wash, facial wash-makeup remover or
makeup gel that can work as blush-eye
shadow-lip color in one.
Coordinate your outfits around your shoes
Limit yourself to a max of three pairs
of shoes. And make sure to wear your
heaviest pair — such as your trainers or
hiking shoes — during take-off.
HOW TO:
Step 1
Cut the following: 10” x 7” pieces of the
canvas and printed cotton fabric (for the body and
lining); 10” x 2” strip of cotton (for the obi); and
19”
x 1” strip of cotton for the cord (to make: fold
in half, then fold each half towards the mid-seam
with right side out, and press; machine stitch along
the opened side).
Step 2
Sew the 10” x 2” cotton onto the center of
the canvas (running stitch on each side, close to
edge). Then sew the cord onto the center of the
cotton strip.
Step 3
With right sides of the 10” x 7” canvas and
cotton fabrics facing, sew a ½” seam around all
the edges. Make sure to leave a 2” opening. Clip
corners. Turn the passport case inside out through
the 2” opening, and poke out all corners with the
end of a pen or paintbrush so they look sharp.
Press edges.
Step 4
Sew a running stitch along the short sides
of the passport case. Make a 1” fold on each of the
short ends, then sew along the top and bottom to
secure in place. Measure 2” from the bottom of the
right fold, then sew across to create a mini pocket
for two credit cards.
Step 5
Fold the passport cover in half, iron
along the fold, then sew down the center with
a running stitch.
Step 6
Slip your passport inside the left fold, and
then your cards on the right. Tie the cord with a knot
or ribbon, and you’re all set for take-off!
