serves a lovely lunch of deep-fried
catfish and green mango salad. And if
you’re after something sweet, hop on a
tuk tuk for a five-minute ride to Thanon
Dinsor, where Mont has been making
tea and cakes since 1964. Milky cha
and toast slathered with sweet coconut
jam are the traditional staples, but the
hot chocolate is also not to be missed.
After a snack, head to the north of
the island and explore the pop-up bars
and shopping ops of Khaosan Road or
get lost in the maze of Pahurat Cloth
Market in the south.
In the middle, at Tha Tien Pier,
people come and go. While most boats
do stop here, even if they don’t, Thais
on board will turn and make a prayer-
like
wai
to the temples and palace on
Ko Rattanakosin. This little island in the
big city is close to their hearts.
Cebu Pacific Air flies to Bangkok from
Manila and Clark.
