Pull out all the
stops
You’ve probably heard: Hong Kong
is full of beautiful people, so gear up
for a glamorous night out. Don your
most stylish frocks and get ready to
schmooze and booze till the wee hours
of the morning.
Dragon-I
This popular club is probably a tourist’s
best introduction to stylish partying
in Hong Kong. The dimly-lit place
gathers together leggy models, minor
HK celebs, moneyed tourists, and
big spenders who get a thrill out of
champagne showers and siphoning
out magnum bottles. If you don’t mind
the hefty door fee (HKD300 for boys,
although girls usually get in for free as
long as they’re heel-clad and stylishly-
dressed), then go ahead.

Sugar
Sugar’s massive outdoor deck with comfy daybeds offers
unparalleled views of the East Kowloon Harbor and the North
Point skyline, which can be soaked in with a fruity cocktail
in hand. Perched on top of the East Hotel in Tai Koo — the
business district just a few minutes by cab from Central —
Sugar is a great, chill-out alternative for those who are getting
tired of the claustrophobia-causing Central scene or those
who want to mingle with young HK professionals.

Lan Kwai Fong
Lan Kwai Fong is easily one of Hong
Kong’s most popular areas, a square
of streets loaded with bars, pubs and
watering holes. More laidback than
Soho, LKF is a lot friendlier to the Hong
Kong first-timer mostly because it’s
also populated by other tourists who
just want to drink and let loose in a
foreign country. Be on the lookout (or
“
hear-out”) for Pinoys behind the bar.
They’re most likely to give a free drink
if they find out that you’re a
kababayan
(
fellow Filipino).
Tazmania
Ballroom
It may have been decorated by Tom
Dixon’s design group, but the biggest
draw to this bar are the ping-pong
balls and billiard tables plunked right
in the middle of the room. The idea of
doing something considered pedestrian
within a luxe environment and with
fashionable people looking on holds a
huge appeal and brings in HK’s young
and fabulous. Drinks are excellent and
the music is well-selected. Just be
cautious of bouncing ping-pong balls.
