WOK COOKING IN HONG KONG
Everywhere I go, I try to do a local
cooking class. In Hong Kong,
Martha Sherpa taught me
how to do deep-fried
wok cooking using
local ingredients.
Next time,
I will learn
how to make
dumplings.

A DAY IN
the life of Tokyo-based journalist
Manami Okazaki is anything but dull. “I travel
frequently for international assignments. I’ve
covered stories about Paris Fashion Week,
anarchists in Athens, Buddhism in Thailand, the
Playboy Mansion parties and the nightlife of
Marrakesh,” says the 33-year-old, who is also
a published author of three books. In Asia, she’s
been to Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Macau,
Taipei and Shanghai, just
to name a few. Back home,
she frequents Osaka — “it’s my
favorite city in Japan because of
the art festivals.” But she does have a
soft spot for Cebu, where she lived for
a year. Here, she shares some snapshots
and other highlights from her most
memorable trips in the region.
VINTAGE FINDS
The streets of Hong Kong have a charm
to them that is unbeatable. I like to get
lost near Peel Street, where I go to score
vintage dresses by designer Wu Lai-fan
at her Fang Fong Projects boutique. Her
dresses are the best!

egg tarts are to die

Hong Kong’s streets are always
