During the Croatian war of
independence in 1991 and
1992,
the Yugoslavian army
bombarded Dubrovnik over
eight months. During this
period, a total of 11,425
buildings in the region
were damaged; 1,675 were
completely destroyed. More
than half the buildings in the
old town, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site, were among
those damaged.
