I
believe that everyone has a responsibility to
help children who suffer - not only as
individuals, but also Norwegian as a company.
That’s why we have a corporate partnership
with UNICEF. Children are the future and we
need to do everything possible to provide them with a safe,
secure and healthy childhood.
Norwegian and UNICEF have been partners since 2007 and
through visits to Malawi and Ukraine, I’ve witnessed first-
hand the unprecedented job UNICEF does to give children
the possibility to grow up – something we in our part of the
world take for granted. In Ukraine last year, we visited several
hospitals and orphanages where UNICEF does an amazing job
preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Norwegian
decided to support this particular project with NOK1
million, and I’m really looking forward to following up these
developments next year.
Most likely, you’ve already enjoyed some sips of water
during this flight. And like me, you probably take the availability
of water for granted. For scores of children around the
world, water – and clean water in particular – is a shortage.
Inadequate access to safe water and sanitation services,
coupled with poor hygiene practices, kills and sickens
thousands of children every day, and leads to impoverishment
and diminished opportunities for even more. UNICEF works in
more than 90 countries around the world to improve water
supplies and sanitation facilities in schools and communities,
and to promote safe hygiene practices. Norwegian wants
to help UNICEF reach its goal of reducing the proportion of
people without sustainable access to safe water and basic
sanitation by 50 per cent.
You may think it sounds ambitious, but you have to start
somewhere. That’s why we’ve decided to donate money from
every water bottle sold on board to UNICEF’s water projects
around the world.
If you buy a bottle of water on board, you not only support
children but stay hydrated during the flight.
Thank you for flying Norwegian and supporting UNICEF!
