ammo has its origins in Norway,
Sweden and Finland’s traditio-
nal ammunition business. Since
its inception in 1998, the compa-
ny has tripled in size and has around 2,000
employees. Nammo’s 20 production faci-
lities are all key industry players and cor-
nerstone businesses in their local commu-
nities.
EXPORT
Although the Norwegian market is the
foundation of Nammo’s Norwegian ac-
tivities; more than 70 % of the revenue
comes from exports to countries outside
the Nordic region. The company is gro-
wing steadily and has established seve-
ral new locations, recently in Spain and
another in the US. Nammo is a major in-
ternational player and supplier of niche
technology within ammunition and
rocket motors.
-
We are a high technology company fo-
cusing on a wide range of ammunition,
rocket motors and demilitarization, with
great success in the international mar-
ket. It goes from projects in which aerody-
namics support our national ski jumpers
need to perform the perfect jump, to de-
livering hybrid rocket motors in order to
land a vehicle on the moon, says Nammo’s
President and CEO,
Edgar Fossheim
.
COMPETENT PEOPLE
Nammo is a professional and responsible
organization.
-
The products we develop and manu-
facture can only be justified in the con-
text that there is a democratic country’s
right to defend itself with military force. In
Nammo we have competent people and
top engineers, all dedicated to do their
best. Because we must provide those who
are ready to defend our democratic prin-
ciples with the best equipment, Fossheim
continues.
RESEARCH
Nammo is concernedwith value creationon
a long-term basis. A development program
may take 5-10 years before the new product
is ready. The products are usually developed
and sold to the national Armed Forces, and
subsequentlymade available to the interna-
tional market. To stay at the forefront Nam-
mo spends 8-10 % of its turnover on rese-
arch, development and innovation.
-
We focus on developing high-end pro-
ducts with emphasize on technology and
environmental properties for the overall
benefit of the people involved and the en-
vironment, Fossheim points out.
OWNERSHIP
Nammo has a shared Norwegian-Finnish
ownership. The Norwegian owner is repre-
sented by theMinistry ofTrade and Industry
and the Finnish by the state-owned Patria
Oyj. Both very responsible owners when it
comes to business targets, economic perfor-
mance and corporate social responsibility.
-
It goes from projects where we work
on perfecting the aerodynamic support
that our national ski jumpers need to per-
form the perfect jump, to delivering a hy-
brid rocket motor needed to land a vehicle
on the moon, says Nammo’s president and
CEO, Edgar Fossheim.
