Ask anyone to describe the oeuvre of iconic artist and illustrator Peter Max, and they’ll tend to use
words like “psychedelic” and “colorful,” with perhaps the occasional “hippie” thrown in. But those
who consign Max to the ’60s and ’70s are ignoring the fact that he continues to produce fascinating,
fantastical work. In Jacksonville, Fla., this month, you can see what he’s been up to when Max presents
his “Masters” series at the Avondale Artworks gallery. Featuring reinterpretations of pieces
by van Gogh, Monet, Picasso and Renoir, the show has already made stops in Nashville and Houston,
and will continue on to Los Angeles and Sco sdale, Ariz., in the coming months.
