Fleet Facts
FLEET UPDATES:
New Boeing 737s have been ordered, and United will be the North American launch customer for the Boeing 737 MAX 9,
taking delivery of 100 of this newest family of airplanes beginning in 2018. The 737 MAX 9 will deliver significant improvement in fuel efficiency
and will feature the Boeing Sky Interior, which creates a greater sense of space in the cabin and has an energy-efficient LED lighting system with
different lighting schemes, a quieter cabin with improved ventilation, and larger overhead bins that accommodate additional carry-on bags.
These new aircraft, combined with our new widebody aircraft already on order and our existing fuel-efficient aircraft, will solidify our future fleet
as one of the most efficient and environmentally responsible fleets in the airline industry.
United’s first Dreamliner arrived in Houston in September to
begin a monthlong training and certification program, including
noncommercial flights to several of United’s domestic hubs. As
the initial aircraft are inducted into the fleet, they will be based
at United’s Houston hub. The Dreamliner domestic service
begins in November; international service begins in December.
You’ll enjoy a number of travel-enhancing features, including
improved lighting, bigger windows equipped with electronic
dimmer buttons, more spacious overhead bins, lower cabin
altitude (which can alleviate altitude-related symptoms such as
headaches and fatigue) and enhanced ventilation systems.
Innovative technology makes the 787 more environmentally
friendly, economical and efficient to fly. Advances include
the use of composite materials, less fuel consumption
and a reduction in noise during takeoff and landing. These
enhancements make it possible for our customers to fly to
such destinations as the recently announced Denver-to-Tokyo
service starting in spring 2013.
