BACKSTORY:
Paws Up is a
working ca le ranch as well
as a luxury resort, but until recently
this land was all hooves and no
haute. A er Paws Upwas rated one
of Montana’s top Black Angus seed
stock operations in 2003, the owners
began building the high-end resort
that stands here now.
WHAT YOU’LL FIND JUST
OUTSIDE:
Mountains, trees
and rivers. Paws Up sits on 37,000
acres of Montana wilderness.
Beyond that lies ... more wilderness.
AMAZING AMENITY:
The Saddle Club is the state’s
largest private equestrian center,
where guests can hone their riding
skills under the watchful eye of
expert trainers. The same horses
that prance around there can also
be taken out into the fields and
ridden on a ca le drive.
WHAT’S NEW:
The tents at
Pinnacle Camp, which opened
just last summer, are lavish setups
outfi ed with actual beds and en
suite bathrooms with heated floors.
HOT PLATE:
Mushroom-
crusted elk loin with steel-cut
oat porridge, smoked kohlrabi and
dried-cherry demi-glace at Pomp,
one of the two on-site restaurants
here. Sure, it sounds like something
a city slicker would order, but
the silky-smooth elk and hearty
porridge make this spread ideal for
hungry ranch hands.
