HAPPY NEW YEAR
and glad to have you
onboard!
I’m proud of everything we accom-
plished at the new United in 2011. We
made significant progress in our merger
integration and received our single operat-
ing certificate from the Federal Aviation
Administration in late November. This
allows us to operate safely as a single car-
rier, with commonmanuals and operating
procedures.We also announced a $550mil-
lion investment in our onboard product
for you, our customer. This investment
includes adding flat-bed seats to the
remainder of our long-haul aircra and
adding our popular Economy Plus seating
tomore than 300 aircra , nearly doubling
the overhead storage space on more than
150 aircraft, installing satellite-based
Wi-Fi onourmainlinefleet, adding stream-
ing wireless video onboard our Boeing
747-400 aircraft and completely retrofit-
ting our p.s. transcontinental fleet. In
addition, we strengthenedwhat is already
the leading route network in the world by
adding new routes and destinations. My
co-workers ran a solid operation, overcom-
ing challenges like snowstorms, hailstorms,
hurricanes and the tragic earthquake and
tsunami in Japan.
We still have about one more year
of merger integration work ahead, and
you’re going to see a lot more changes,
and a lot more progress, in the coming
months. In the spring, we will launch our
singlepassenger service systemsoall of the
Continental and United reservations and
customer information will be housed on
one platform—making your booking, loy-
alty program usage, travel, customer care
andproduct choiceswithusmoreseamless.
Iwant to thank you for choosingUnited
for your flight today. We appreciate your
business as we work to build the world’s
leading airline.
