in an elegant chateau. Owner
Anny Bernard was born and raised at
Le Beaucamp, but had to leave during
World War II when German occupying
forces took over the property. Sold a er
the war, the chateau came onto the
market a fewyears ago andwas snapped
up by Bernard, who has restored it to its
former grandeur.
The next morning, it’s back to Calais
and the Eurotunnel. I play with the
urban mode, then the touring option.
But I know what I really want. So, with

on the tank, dig into the back foot pegs
and se le into sport mode, opening the

CINDY-LOU DALE,

THE BELLS ANDWHISTLES
PERKS:
The riding mode
technologies and Ducati
traction control allow differ-
ent settings for suspension,
engine mapping, ABS and
traction control, earning
the Multistrada
a lofty spot in
the pantheon of
superbikes.
PERFORMANCE:
The
Multistrada has positioned
itself as a four-in-one
vehicle: sport bike, long-
distance tourer, urban
transport and off-road
endurance machine. As
such, it outperforms
just about every
other motorcycle
out there.
ENGINE:
Like Lamborghini, the Ducati
badge has gone up on the trophy wall
of parent company Audi—little wonder,
given theMultistrada’s 150 horses
and 9,250 rpm. With a curb
weight of 478 pounds, the
bike has a fuel consump-
tion of about 41 mpg.
STARTING PRICE:
$16,995
