The Rolling Stones might not
have achieved the longevity of
Queen Elizabeth II, who this
year celebrates six decades as
Britain’s monarch, but 50 years
is an awfully long time to have
occupied a top spot in rock ’n’ roll.
Accordingly, the Stones’ golden
anniversary has been met with a
flurry of commemorative books.
Among the most promising is
The Rolling Stones 1972
, a visual
diary of the band’s U.S. tour that
year, which marked their first
decade in the business. The photos
are by the late, great JimMarshall,
the man who wrote the book on
how to shoot rock stars. As Keith
Richards notes in the foreword:
“Once Jim was in, he was another
Stone.”
