W
elcome aboard, and thanks
for choosing to fly United. We
appreciate your business, and
we’ll do our best to deliver a good travel
experience for you. At United, we’re invest-
ing in our product, our technology, our
fleet, our facilities and our people so that
we can continue to improve your travel
experience. While we have the ability to
influence your trip at numerous points
along your journey, there are a few impor-
tant parts that are outside of our control,
and one of them is airport security.
The Transportation Security Admin-
istration, which is in charge of airport
security in the U.S., works hard to keep
you safe. They do a good job doing so, but
it’s no secret that the security screening
process can be cumbersome and time-
consuming for travelers.
I’m pleased to say that the TSA has
launched a new risk-based pre-screening
initiative calledPreCheck that allows trav-
elers to volunteer to the TSA information
about themselves that may make them
eligible to participate in an expedited
screening process at certain airport termi-
nals. While random additional screening
of those travelers will still occasionally
occur, passengers who go through expe-
dited screening will no longer need to
remove their shoes, belts and jackets, or
take their liquids and laptops out of their
bags, before going through security.
MileagePlus members participating in
this programmay be eligible for expedited
screening at our O’Hare hub and several
other airports in the U.S. The TSA plans to
launch the programat additional airports
throughout 2012. For more information
on the program, visit www.tsa.gov or
www.united.com/tsaprescreening.
We applaud this move by the TSA
toward an intelligence-driven, risk-based
program that will make the screening
process more efficient for travelers while
allowing the TSA to focus the most
resources on identifying genuine threats.
On behalf of my more than 85,000
co-workers, I’d like to again thank you for
flying with us today. We hope to see you
on another of our flights soon.
