Der Film-Klassiker
Casablanca
wird
dieses Jahr 70 Jahre alt. Zur Feier des
Jubiläums der Filmpremiere am 26. No-
vember findet im Rick‘s Café im marok-
kanischen Casablanca ein Dinner unter
dem Motto Schwarz-Weiß passend zum
Film statt. Bis 2004 gab es Rick‘s Café
nur im Film. Bis auf wenige Szenen wur-
de
Casablanca
in einem Hollywood-Stu-
dio gedreht und das durch den Film be-
rühmt gewordene Restaurant war eine
Kulisse. Vor acht Jahren eröffnete die
Amerikanerin Kathy Kriger dann aber ein
der Kulisse nachempfundenes Lokal und
nannte es, in Hommage an den Film,
Rick‘s Café. Das restaurierte Jugendstil-
gebäude mit Glasperlenleuchten, mau-
rischen Bögen, Palmen und einer großen
Cocktailbar steht der Filmkulisse in
nichts nach. Und der Pianist Issam
Chabaas vervollständigt die Atmosphäre.

While most Moroccans have never
heard of the movie
Casablanca
,
tourists
to the city often ask for the mythical
Rick’s Café Américain. When the film
was released in 1942, Warner Brothers
never expected it to become a world
legend, but 70 years later, there’s a real
Rick’s Café in the gritty city of
Casablanca that has itself become a
legend. To celebrate the film’s
anniversary (and also the launch of the
owner’s book – see opposite), on 26
November Rick’s Café will host a
black-and-white-themed dinner. The
restaurant opened eight years ago,
set in a superbly restored art deco house.

palm trees and a long cocktail bar
conjure up the romance, with help from
pianist Issam playing

You almost expect Bogart and Bergman
to be at the next table.
