Thessaloniki wird vom 17. bis 21. Okto-
ber zur Hauptstadt der Weltmusik, wenn
Musiker und Aussteller aus fast 100 Län-
dern zur international größten Messe
dieser Musikrichtung zusammen kom-
men. Die WOrld Music EXpo (WOMEX)
findet jedes Jahr in einem anderen Land
Europas statt und zieht mehr als 2.000
Fachbesucher an. Neben neuen Trends in
der Branche stehen besonders die Kon-
zerte imMittelpunkt: 320 Musiker aus 52
Ländern werden auf sechs Bühnen spie-
len. Dabei ist unter anderem die fünfköp-
fige Band Sotho Sounds aus den Bergen
Lesothos (Bild rechts). Neben Vorträgen
und Seminaren ergänzt eine Reihe von 13
Dokumentarfilmen zum Thema Weltmu-
sik das Progamm der WOMEX.
In October Thessaloniki will become
the capital of world music when musicians
and exhibitors from almost 100 countries
come together for the largest international
festival of folk, world, roots, ethnic and
traditional music. The WOrld Music EXpo
(
WOMEX) draws in more than 2,000 trade
visitors. Concerts are at its heart,
alongside new trends in the world music
sector. This year 320 musicians from 52
countries will be playing on six stages.
Moreover, the trend for world music
documentary films has not diminished
since Wim Wenders’
Buena Vista Social
Club,
and there will also be screenings of

films on the theme of world music.

BIS ZUM 25. NOVEMBER IN VENEDIG
Noch bis Ende November läuft in Venedig
die 13. Architekturbiennale unter der
Leitung des britischen Stararchitekten
David Chipperfield. Insgesamt 69 Pro-
jekte von Architekten aus 55 Ländern
werden auf dem 10.000 Quadratmeter
großen Festivalgelände ausgestellt. Der
deutsche Pavillion zeigt einen Beitrag
der Münchner Muck Petzet und Konstan-
tin Grcic. Der Architekt und der Designer
haben das Thema
Reduce/Reuse/Recy-
cle
(
Vermeiden/Weiterverwenden/Wie-
deraufbereiten)
gewählt. Sie wollen da-
mit ressourcenschonende Lösungen für
den Umgang mit bereits vorhandenen
Bausubstanzen, zum Bespiel in alten
Plattenbauten, aufgreifen.
The 13th Architecture Biennale runs in
Venice until the end of November under
the patronage of British architect David
Chipperfield. A total of 69 projects by

Common Ground:
with this
theme Chipperfield is aiming to place the
emphasis on collaboration. The German
contribution was based on a resource-
friendly way of handling existing building
fabric and is entitled
Reduce/Reuse/
Recycle.
