muss man aufpassen, denn die Hollän-
der werden sich nicht wieder so viel
einschenken lassen wie noch vor ein
paar Monaten. Und Spanien ist immer
noch der Topfavorit, aber eben nicht
unschlagbar.
Sie werden während des Turniers
aus dem Quartier der deutschen
Mannschaft berichten, wohnen Sie
dann auch da?

Nein, aber ganz in der Nähe. Im Deut-
schen Quartier wohnt nur die Mann-
schaft. Journalisten dürfen immer nur
zu Besuch vorbei.
Sie stehen schon seit vielen Jahren
vor der Kamera, hatten mit Unter-
haltungsprogrammen wie

Eurovision
großen
Erfolg. Warum haben Sie sich jetzt
mehr der Fußba l l -Repor t age
zugewandt?
►
Ich habe ja auch meine Unterhal-
tungsshows, zum Beispiel
Opdenhövels
Countdown
und
Brot und Spiele
. Also 50
Prozent Sport und 50 Prozent Shows.
So war es in der Vergangenheit und so
darf es gern bleiben.
Sind Sie persönlich ein großer Fuß-
ballfan? Was begeistert Sie an dem
Sport?
►
Kann man schwer in Worte fassen.
Fußball ist für mich wie Religion.
Die EM 2012 ist Ihr erstes großes Tur-
nier für die ARD, wie bereiten Sie sich
darauf vor?
►
Mit viel Schlaf. Das werden sicher
arbeitsreiche Wochen, denn ich bin je-
den Tag im Einsatz. Aber auf das Turnier
freue ich mich schon sehr.
Wie wird für Sie ein typischer Tag
während der Europameisterschaft
aussehen?
►
Jeder Tag wird anders sein, weil ich ja
immer woanders bin. Ich werde die
deutsche Mannschaft begleiten, wo im-
mer sie sich gerade aufhält.
Wer sind Ihre Favoriten für den dies-
jährigen EM Titel?
►
Ich glaube, dass das deutsche Team
richtig gute Chancen hat. Die Mann-
schaft hat ein extrem hohes fußballe-
risches Niveau, ist jung, hat aber viel

How are you going to prepare for the
tournament?
►
With a lot of sleep. It’s going to be a
hectic few weeks as I’m working every day.
Describe a typical working day at the
European Championship.
►
I doubt there will be any routine, as I’ll
be following the German team wherever
they go.
Who are your favourites to win the
title this year?
►
I think the German team has a really good
chance. The team plays to a high standard,
and it’s young but experienced nonetheless.
We need to watch out though. The Dutch
won’t make it as easy for us as they did a
fewmonths ago. Spain is another favourite,
although they’re not unbeatable.
You’ll be reporting from the German
team’s HQ. Will you also be staying
there?
►
No, but I’ll be very close by. The camps
are for the teams only. Journalists are only
allowed to visit them.
You’ve been presenting for some
years now, and you’ve done really
well with entertainment shows like
Eurovision
. What made you decide to
focus on football reporting?
►
I also still present entertainment shows,
like
Opdenhövels Countdown
and
Brot und
Spiele
. Fifty per cent sport and 50% light
entertainment – that’s what I’ve been doing
to date, and I hope it carries on that way.
Are you a big football fan? What do
you like about the game?
►
It’s difficult to put it into words. Football
is like a religion.
