Vom 6. Juni bis 9. Juli wird die wohl be-
deutendste deutsche Choreografin und
Tänzerin Pina Bausch mit einer großen
Retrospektive im Londoner Barbican
Centre und im Sadler’s Wells Theatre ge-
feiert. Zehn Stücke führt das Tanztheater
Wuppertal in internationalen Koproduk-
tionen auf, sieben davon sind Premieren
in England. Die Retrospektive steht unter
dem Titel
World Cities
. Jede der Metropo-
len, von Hong Kong bis Los Angeles
prägte die Truppe von Pina Bausch und
ihren Stil. In London ziehen die Tänzer
gemeinsam mit ihren berühmten Part-
nern aus der ganzen Welt die Zuschauer
in ihren Bann. Auch die Bühnenbilder sind
großartig: Bauschs Partner Peter Pabst
hat eine eigene Welt für jedes Stück ge-
schaffen – riesige Seidenblumen illus-
trieren die Exotik Asiens, Ziegelwände
den rauen Charme Siziliens. London
schafft mit diesem Tanz-Festival einen
kulturellen Rahmen zur Olympiade, die in
diesem Sommer die Stadt in Atem hält.
Germany’s most famous
choreographer and dancer, Pina Bausch,
who died in 2009, is the subject of a
month-long retrospective at the Barbican
Centre and Sadler’s Wells theatre this
summer. The retrospective, which takes
place between 6 June and 9 July and is
part of the London 2012 Festival, will
feature her 1986 work,
World Cities 2012.
This is a series of dance pieces inspired by
Bausch and her company’s visits to 10
cities worldwide. The Tanztheater and
their famous international collaborators
are set to captivate audiences during their
London shows. Bausch’s partner Peter
Pabst did the design, so the sets will be
equally mesmerising, with giant silk
flowers evoking exotic Asia, and stone
walls conjuring up the raw charm of Sicily.
