pedelecs, or electric bikes, which
have recently become popular
among urban commuters. The
CEOof clever vehicle
manufacturer Smart, Dr Annette
Winkler, rides an electric Smart
Eurobike, partly to showcase her
company’s products but also
because she’s a fan: ‘The Eurobike
2011 was a great platform for
presenting our e-bike to the
public for the first time. After the
show, we got very positive
feedback from the countries and
regions where the e-bike is now
available.’ The fair opens its
doors to the public on its last day.
presents solutions for the
planning, furnishing and
managing of new business
environments and features.
Some 600 exhibitors from 40
different countries are
expected. The show’s manager,
Katharina Hamma, explains its
appeal: ‘All over the world,
people work in offices, and
increasing globalisation means
that office trends are becoming
more homogenised. Orgatec is
the only fair in the world that
deals specifically with the world
of work. It doesn’t just focus on
office equipment, it also looks at
things like media integration
and lighting solutions.’
There’s a different kind of
design on show at Eurobike (29
August – 1 September). Over
40,000 bike-trade specialists
frommore than 100 countries are
set to descend onGermany’s
southernmost trade show in
Friedrichshafen for the world’s
leading cycling trade fair.
Industry representatives and
bike enthusiasts will be

Ausstellungs- und Messe-
Ausschuss der Deutschen
Wirtschaft e.V. (AUMA) is keen
to continually develop the
country’s role as a leading show
location by hosting a range of
international events. Despite
the euro crisis, the German
trade show continues to go from
strength to strength and
remains a very powerful
marketing tool.
AUMA head Hans-Joachim
Boekstegers explains: ‘In
financially challenging times,
it’s important to make new
contacts and demonstrate your
company’s quality and
reliability, because customers
don’t want to take risks. Trade
shows offer small- and medium-
sized businesses a good price-
performance ratio, because they
can demonstrate the
effectiveness of their products
on their stands, and talk to
visitors face to face, which can
generate possible and actual
sales leads.’
