question divided opinion. “Music festival or festival de
Canne?”, wisely asked Eve Berry. “What you bring is very
different,” she continued. “But sunscreen is always useful.”
For others it was all about practicality. Annetta England
opted for “wet wipes, toilet paper, wellies”. Indeed, weather
seemed to be a common theme among the UK contingent, no
doubt used to sudden downpours, with her fellow Brit Lynn
Tebb also opting for “umbrella and wellies”.
Our French friends were more philosophical, with a
proportion suggesting a “smile” and a “desire for discovery” as
their festival must-brings. Of course, it helps when you’re
guaranteed sunshine, and a fair few also earmarked
sunglasses. Ear plugs were also a common suggestion,
though we doubt either David Alves or Guillaume Alvarez from
Switzerland care so much for their hearing. At least they gave
that impression by opting for the rock-tastic choice of Dr
Marten’s boots.
Tasked with illustrating it all was the curiously named Mr
Bingo, whose distinctive drawings have graced publications

the items we included: “I think a hippy dress is a must,” he told
us. And why not? After all, aren’t festivals all about expressing
yourself – even if that means donning women’s clothing?

Around the figure, you’ll see a
bunch of clothing and accessories.
As you’ll probably recognise, these
are the kind of items favoured by festivalgoers, and we’re

It’s all part of our bumper festival special. Last month, we
asked our Facebook friends just what they consider the most
important items to pack for an event. The idea was that their
suggestions could help us create the cut-out-and-keep cover
illustration. It’s funny, though, how much that one simple
