ventilation and were also intended to represent the
various districts of the city. It was due to see its first kick-
off in the 2009-10 football season, but financial problems

Other notable contemporary buildings include
MUVIM (Museum of the Enlightenment and Modernity),
dedicated to the history of thought; IVAM, the city’s
Institute of Modern Art and one of the most important
in Spain; and – a pioneer of Valencia’s architectural
transformation – the glass-domed Palau de la Música
concert hall, famed for its acoustics, that was built in 1987
by José Maria Garcia de Paredes. There’s also Calatrava’s
bridge across the Turia, near the Alameda Metro Station
for which he was also responsible, as structurally
impressive as it is a curving artistic wonder.
