the best bar in Budapest. It’s not a party place, just
a small, neighbourhood bar, but you get, without
question, the best drinks. It’s all about the quality
of the product, the customer and the service. I
go there when I want to take someone for a good
experience, have a conversation and the pleasure
of drinking wonderful concoctions.

Zoltán Nagy is the guy behind the bar. He has
a cocktail school where he educates his guys and
they are all top level. Indeed, two of
them made it to the cocktail world
championships in China and one
of them came second.
“
Boutiq’bar has rightly
made it to the World’s Top
50
Bars list, so the cat’s out
of the bag. It has been very much a word-of-mouth
place – I hope it doesn’t change; I’m sure it won’t –
but it’s a great reward for working hard.

Zoltán is behind the bar regularly, as well as in
the front talking with people. It’s a very personal
thing and they get to know their people. They will
size you up and say: ‘You look like a gin man’.
“
I go there quite regularly. I happen to live on
the same street now, so that could be good or bad
for obvious reasons. I always make a point to stop
by and have a drink there when we have
friends visiting the city. They’ve
actually created a drink for me.
It’s called the PG. It’s not on
the menu – you have to ask.
Maybe that’s a sign I spend
too much time there.”
