1 Red Dog American Sandwiches

(
37a Hoxton
Square, N1, +44 20 3551 8014
) Choosing from the
extensive menu and eating in a ladylike manner at this
new US-style sub shop are nigh on impossible. But try.
You’ll like it.

(
15-16 Bradbury
Street, N16, +44 207 682 0163
) The menu at Dalston’s
hottest eatery is awash with accents from global modern
cooking; from South American-inspired roasted mackerel
and chimichurri, to a Middle-eastern style charred
aubergine dish that will have us returning simply to
re-sample its smoked yoghurt accompaniment.
3 Berners Tavern

(
10 Berners Street, W1T, +44 20

) This latest Jason Atherton project is almost as
good as the hype suggests. Modern British classics with a
fun twist dominate the a la carte menu. In particular, duck
leg with caramel apples and pickled plum puree; Orkney
scallop ceviche with jalapeño and lime ice, and a Cereal
Killer cocktail (which makes possibly the best recorded
use of Coco Pops milk) are stand-out moments.

It’s the waiters in Nike Air trainers that really sum
up the vibe at this lounge-bar hangout. Residing in the
hipper than thou, newly opened Ace Hotel, it combines all
the usual east London touch points: potent cocktails with
slightly silly names; retro Scandinavian furnishings; and, of
course, impossibly well-dressed clientele.
5* Capital Karts
As of last month, London’s
petrolheads have a new hangout. The UK’s longest indoor
karting track opened in Barking on 1 November. With
the same Go Karts used at Michael Schumacher’s own
centres in Germany and prices from £32.99 for half an
hour, it’s sure to be popular.
