easyJet Traveller December 2013 - page 14

Taking pictures of Croatian
music lovers with record
sleeves obscuring their faces
might look amusing (see
p92), but it was a tricky task
for
Guardian
and
Time Out
photographer
Jaime Lau
.
“Lining up cover artwork
with body parts is harder
than you might think,” he
explains. Luckily, his
favourite bit of the job is “the
opportunity to tell bad jokes
to people I’ve never met
before” – useful for keeping
portrait subjects at ease.
After a case of mistaken
identity saw him stumble
into the profession 24 years
ago,
Jonathan Bousfield
has become an expert on
travel in Eastern Europe.
We thought the
Rough
Guide to Croatia
author
was just the man to write
about Zagreb’s record
shops (see p92) – a
nostalgic assignment, as he
explained. “It took me back
to my childhood, visiting
record shops and listening
to the John Peel Show.”

Turning down a university

18 has proved a decidedly
smart move for

the world writing for, among

The Washington Post

The Independent
and
Rough

. This month, he’s
penned our business column
on the rise alcohol-free,
late-night bars and
nightclubs in Sweden (see
p132). It’s a trend, he says,
that could be spreading.

Liz McBurney
has
photographed all manner of
strange objects in
her years shooting for

Marie Claire

After those briefs, how did
the Liverpudlian find our
Christmas cover shoot?
“It certainly got us all in the
mood for XMAS with the
bright lights, the gold and all
the sparkly things,” she
confirmed. “Let it snow!”
