AS TOLD TO
JUDE MCARDLE
it might sound corny
but I love what I do.
I’ve always wanted to fly; if it wasn’t my job,
I’d probably be doing it at the weekend as a
hobby. A good pilot is someone who’s calm
under pressure, has good decision-making
abilities and is considerate of others. You need
to show customers compassion because they
are the life-blood of the airline.
If I get the chance, and if anybody wants to
come in to see the flight deck or just wants
to talk, my cockpit door is open. Contact with
customers is something I welcome. I do try
and inform passengers a little bit about where
we are and I’ll always come out and help if
anything needs doing.
I was very fortunate to be put forward for the
Spirit Awards. While I can’t say why I won, I do
know I’m dedicated to my job and considerate
of my colleagues.
Working at easyJet has given me fantastic
life opportunities. In 2010, I chose to move
my family to Italy for a change of lifestyle and
maybe a different focus on life. We’ve been
here ever since. The base in Rome is very
friendly and everybody knows each other.
They’re a good bunch of people.
Rome itself is an amazing city to visit. It’s so
compact, it could essentially be walked across
in a day. Everybody should do it at least once.
I live in a town called Bracciano, 35 minutes
north. There’s a stunning lake with beaches –
it’s a really nice place to spend the day. Tom
Cruise and Katie Holmes got married here.
I try to do the job to the best of my ability.
Enjoying it makes that a lot easier. I’m happy
with easyJet, happy in my daily life and I love my
job. So it’s nice to get recognition but that’s not
why I do it.
