Naamyaa
£15
(
Angel Building, 407 St John Street, tel:
020 3122 0988
)
This modern Bangkok café’s menu does
something unlike 95% of London’s Thai restaurants – it
surprises. Authentic dishes such as
Naamyaa goong
,
a fiery
seafood curry that you pour over noodles, and pan-fried
turnip cakes are highlights.

MEAT Mission
£20
The
team behind MEAT Liquor are not known for being health-
conscious. This grungy pit off Hoxton Market slaps out the
usual messy trays of beefburgers, ‘pork frank’ and battered
chicken piled high with more meat, cheese, sauce, and
perhaps a vegetable or two (of the fried variety of course).
Delish.

Sophie’s Steakhouse and Bar
£40
(
29-31
Wellington Street, tel: 020 7836 8836
)
The original Sophie’s
in Fulham made its name when a good steak was hard to
come by in London. Today, such grillhouses are ten-a-
penny, but the new West End branch still shines thanks to
its simple ethos of great meat, properly cooked. Rib-eye,
fillet or sirloin; the choices are as attractive as the cosily
dark decor.

Chrysan
Exclusive
(
Broadgate West, 1
London
Snowden Street, tel: 020 3657 4777
)
Once you’ve discovered
this superb Japanese treat tucked off Snowden Street,
there’ll be no forgetting it. Renowned chef Yoshihiro Murata
boldly infuses traditional sweet, soy and miso flavours with
the finest western ingredients, before expertly sculpting
each dish into a delicate display. With waiters performing
final touches at the table, such as setting alight candy floss
atop the beef sukiyaki to caramelise the tender meat, the
evening is a remarkable experience and a sumptuous meal.

The Shoreditch Butchery
(
32-37
Cowper Street, tel: 020
7354 9993
)
Contrary to its name, this dimly lit nightspot is
about packing in the drinks, not the meat. A few sips from
one of its generous rum, vodka and tequila-based cocktails
will soon have you bopping away. Still can’t get food off the
brain? Then order a bite-size hot dog or slider plate.
