September sees the
Alsace Wine Route
in
its full autumnal splendour. The well-marked
route winds for 220km from north of Basel to
near Strasbourg through one of the world’s most
treasured white-wine growing areas, with more than
800 vineyards offering free tastings with only a little
pressure to buy.
Richard Harvell
Donegall Street, tel: 028 9023 3768) Considered
by many locals to be the best bar in Belfast, The
John Hewitt is about as far away as you can get
from a pub chain. As well having a large selection
of beers on tap, it is also a great spot for lunch.
Titanic Maritime Emporium
If you’re
interested in Belfast’s ship-building
history, then we recommend a trip to this quirky
shop on Donegall Quay. It has memorabilia and
collectables from various Belfast-built vessels,
and you can also purchase tickets for a boat trip
on the river Lagan (Obel 66, Donegall Quay, tel:
028 9024 0124).
On a clear autumn day, the view from the
summit of
Cave Hill
is breathtaking. The
mountain is situated on the outskirts of north
Belfast and it takes around an hour to climb. After
your walk, why not go for a drink in Belfast Castle,
which is situated just next to the car park. Let’s face
it – you’ve earned it!
