Business
Everyone knows Milan is Italy’s capital of commerce, but
as a visiting exec with a small window of opportunity,
you need to know where to go. We asked three insiders
for their perfect all-day plan…
C
limbing to dominance above Milan's skyline,
a group of twisty towers are in the process of
being built that provide a perfect vision of city
life there in the 21st century.
Lo Storto, designed by Anglo-Iraqi 'star-chitect' Zaha
Hadid, is a 185m-tall, twisted structure set to form an axis
for Milan’s Expo 2015, a year-long celebration of Italy’s
€100bn food industry. The other, Daniel Libeskind's
Il Curvo, is a suitably dramatic piece of 21st century
architecture that will overlook the nearby Museum of
Contemporary Art, also by Libeskind. As can be seen
from the artist's rendering (

),
they are testament to a
metropolis that is changing, fast.
Milan has long been Italy’s business capital, but an
exec visiting today will find a place enamoured with
fashion and design, where deals are as likely to be signed
over an evening aperitvo as in the office. Just remember
that the city has its own etiquette rules, which differ from
the rest of Italy. Most important? Never be late.
