Walk through a volcano
Reykjavik
Unforgettable, epic and unique are words too often squandered on less-than-life-changing adventures, but in the case of
day trips inside the Thrihnukagigur volcano, they’re right on the mark. Secured to an open-sided cable lift (the same system
window cleaners use on skyscrapers), visitors descend 120m from the crater hole on a knee-wobbling excursion to explore the
base of the magma chamber. Despite it being four millennia since its last eruption, the fiery colours and other-worldly lava
shapes leave you in no doubt that this really is a journey to the centre of the earth. In our opinion, there's nothing quite like it.
