ONMY TAIL
IT’S NIGHTFALL IN
COPENHAGEN
AND VESTERBRO
IS BUZZING. FASHIONABLE CROWDS CONGREGATE
OUTSIDE BARS, A SENSE OF
ANTICIPATION
IN THE
AIR. I SHOULD BE ENJOYING MY BIKE RIDE IN THIS
CYCLE FRIENDLY
CITY, BUT I ONLY HAVE ONE
EYE ON THE ROUTE.
THE
OTHER WATCHES
MY BACK AS I KNOW
The athletic, model-beautiful citizens around me may look
harmless, but there are a few DVD box sets on my bookshelf
that say different. This is, in fact, a city of villains. Well,
fictional ones at least.
It was back in 2007 that Danish networks first screened
a gritty crime series called
Forbrydelsen
(
Danish for
The
Crime
,
but widely translated as
The Killing
).
Centred around
the formidable detective Sarah Lund (and her now-famous
jumper), it painted a
noir
-
ish picture of Copenhagen over
the 20 hours of a murder enquiry, where virtually every
character was a suspect, corruption was rife, closest friends
turned out to be mass murderers and even the most well-
seeming individuals hid a dark past.
