Wanderland
It’s Spring Walking Week in
Jersey on 12-19 May, so
we’ve suggested a gamut
of rambles you can do
all-year round
1
A capital walk
Jersey’s capital, St
Helier – named after a
6th-century martyr –
is home to historical
sculptures and dairy
ice cream. Awalk along
the seafront, with its
many yachts, celebrates
Jersey’s proud nautical
tradition. Spot Elizabeth
Castle and Hermitage
Rock, where St Helier
reputedly lived, which are
both just offshore.
Distance:
3.2km
Rating:
easy
2
Take a night stroll
The third-highest tides in
the world are in Jersey;
when they roll away, a
distinctly lunar landscape
is revealed.Walking
on this is inadvisable
without a guide, so
JerseyWalk Adventures
(
jerseywalkadventures.
co.uk
) offer nighttime
‘moonwalks’ across sand
bars, past rock pools and
out to the Seymour or
Icho Towers.
Distance:
3km
Rating:
moderate
3
Wine-tasting
wander
The church at St Mary’s
Parish dates back to
William the Conqueror
in 1042. Doubtless he’d
have enjoyed a visit to La
MareWine Estate, which
produces around 18,000
bottles of wine a year.
This walk also takes in
the beautiful coast near
Grève de Lecq, and passes
close to a glassworks and
jewellery workshop.
Distance:
11.2km
Rating:
moderate
