As summer draws closer, so does
another festival season. And while the
UK can undoubtedly offer some of the
season’s best music events, it can’t
always promise balmy climes, clear blue

some fantastic festivals where
(hopefully) no wellies are required.
SONAR – FLY TO BARCELONA,

The Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend is
fast approaching and while London
will no doubt be the focal point of
celebrations marking the Queen’s
60-year reign, those looking for
something a little bit different should
head for Gibraltar. Sitting right at

seek salvation within its Scandinavian
counterpart, Roskilde, the largest music
festival in northern Europe. Set up by
hippies in the early 1970s, this
not-for-profit humanitarian festival
brings some of music’s biggest acts
to the Danish countryside. Headliners
this year includeThe Cure, Bruce
Springsteen and the E Street Band, and
possibly Iceland’s finest export, Björk.
The festival’s campsite is at the very
heart of its experience, covering an
impressive 80 hectares and featuring
separate areas for guests to cook, party
