Ljubljana
Slovenia
AFTER DARK
LOWKEY
Randevu
(19Mestni Trg)
Slovenia boasts some
superbwines and
here you can try some
crisp, drywhites from
theVipavaValley or
some hearty reds from
Goriska Brda, right
down by thewaterfront
in theOldTown.
LATE & LIVELY
InBox
(224Jurckova
Cesta)Worth a
detour out of the city
centre. Party with an
up-for-it and fairly
unpretentious crowd.
House tunes rule in
this relaxed party hub.
Mainly local DJs, but
the occasional out-of-
towner drops in for a
turn on the decks.
NOWAY!
ABelgian couple were
so impressed by the
Slovenian capital that
they decided to name
their child Ljubljana,
which translates into
English as“Beloved”.

rated Slovenianwines.
Not as touristy as the

in theOldTown.

Kimchee
(71 High
Holborn,WC1, 020
7430 0956) First
came sushi, then
dim sum, and now
Korean bites are
the latest Eastern
craze of cheap eats
to hit the capital.
Named after the
Korean staple dish
of chilli-fermented
cabbage, this packed
restaurant normally
has people queueing
round the block.
Get there early and
enjoy plum wine
while selecting small
dishes of dumplings,
tempura and spicy
chicken bulgogi
(marinated meat with
noodles). As filling as
that all is, you have
to try the brilliantly
named bibimbap – a
typical Korean dish
with rice, veg, meat
and a raw egg, which
then cooks in your
heated bowl.

(33 Cornhill,

rhapsodise at length
about the lobster
and truffle risotto
or the strawberries
and cream pavlova
on offer at this
smart city grill and
oyster bar, but that
would be to ignore
the elephant in the
room. Or rather the
whopping great
cow. That’s because
the Door does one
mean steak.Whether
you’re fiending for
Argentine Angus,
ludicrously tender
AustalianWagyu or
a prime UK T-bone,
this brasserie-styled
eatery – all polished
brass and deep
mahogany – is up
there with London’s
current crop of top
carnivore havens.
And that really is
saying something.

booted customers
with a penchant for a
good wine fill out the
small dining room of
this Barbican eatery.
The low lighting and
muted conversation
over dinner contrast
slightly with the
bar area, where the
atmosphere – all
hearty laughs and
pint supping – is
reminiscent of the
days when this
building was part
of the Whitbred
brewery. The menu,
however, is as far
removed from
pub fare as you’ll
find with dishes
such as succulent
roast Yorkshire
wood pigeon and
Herefordshire snail
and smoked bacon
pie really showcasing
