most dramatic island coastline inGreece

I
f you fancy a Herculean task as you approach Kefalonia
by plane, try counting every beach, cove and inlet of the
island’s magnificent shoreline. You’ll soon realise the
largest of the Ionian islands has a coast like no other.
It makes for one of the best places to explore by boat. On
the west side, powerful waves pound immaculate pebbly
beaches; on the east, fragrant woodland stretches right down
to the sea. You can choose tomoor up next to the yachts of
Russian oligarchs in Argostoli, the island’s capital, alongside
other big vessels in postcard-pretty Fiscardo – or be the only
boat in a tiny, unknown bay that hasn’t changed in eons.
There are underwater arches and hidden caverns.
Most of all, though, there’s tranquillity, as many of these
wonderful bays are not easily accessible by car. There’s
nothing quite like having a beach to yourself: it gives you a
disproportionate sense of importance, which – let’s face it –
is what holidays are all about. Tempted yet? You will be as
we take a floating tour...
