SONY ULTRABOOK VAIO T13
FROM ¤799, SONY.CO.UK
It seems like Apple has held the
monopoly on sleek, seriously
covetable laptops for an age. Since
its launch in 2008, the MacBook Air
has been the machine of choice for
any traveller wanting a powerful,
yet portable, slab of computing
with looks to boot. No more.
A newwave of Windows-powered
“Ultrabooks” are fighting back. This
is the first by Sony and it looks set
to give Apple a run for its money.
Weighing just 1.6kg, this alluring
machine promises nine hours
battery life and an impressive 90
days in sleep mode – making it a
perfect on-the-move companion.
Sony tends to excel at the details
and this is no exception. The
keyboard feels solid yet spacious,
and business folks will enjoy the
array of sockets, including those
needed to hook up to a projector
without annoying adaptors.
You can choose between a
seriously fast, solid-state drive; a
traditional hard drive with more
storage; or a cutting-edge hybrid
that delivers the best of both
worlds. Geeks will be chuffed to
plump for Intel’s newest Ivy Bridge
technology, which offers an even
more frugal battery and enhanced
video. These options will nudge up
the price, of course, but you know
what? Sometimes it’s worth it.
