HOTEL J
STOCKHOLM
This New-England-style hotel makes
the most of its serene waterside setting.
Most of its 158 rooms have a balcony
or patio overlooking the harbour, while
its decor is a gentle mix of white wood
and washed-out pastels. The restaurant
continues the Maine theme, serving soft-
shell crab and red snapper saltimbocca.

HOTEL CATALUNYA
ALGHERO
During the summer months, thousands
of yachts descend on Alghero harbour,
where the accomodation is designed
with their owners in mind. No surprise
then, to find the utmost quality at
lodgings like the four-star Catalunya
where the restaurant terrace offers a
superb panorama of the bobbing boats.

HOTEL PORT MÁHON
MENORCA
You won’t find any grand cruise ships
anchored at this little outlet of Mahón’s
harbour. The Menorcan capital’s main
port area is very busy, but move east
a smidgen and the waterways are far
quieter, with just a few moorings for
sailboats. This quaint hotel has 82 simple
rooms, pool and sea views.

3 OF THE BEST
HARBOURSIDE HOTELS
LONDON
Spanish chain Sol Meliã launched
the ‘Me’ range of hotels in 2006,
and has since been pioneering
a brand of cool stays with a
designer-boutique feel and all
the luxuries of the big hitters. Its
latest opening – just in time for the
huge influx of London tourists – is
no different. Located right next
to Covent Garden’s main Piazza,
this hotel is a real little piece of
Theatreland, occupying a building
that was formerly both the Gaiety
Theatre and Strand Music Hall. The
curtains will open for the first time
on 15 July, and the skyline view
from the terrace bar alone makes a
visit worthwhile. It’s a vista shared
by 30 of the hotel’s rooms from
their own private balconies. Book

BARCELONA
What could be better than relaxing
in a rooftop infinity pool in July?
Maybe knowing that you’re one
of the first to enjoy its view over
the Catalan capital. The four-star
Andante Hotel opened in June
and is already becoming the city’s
hottest ticket. It’s sustainable too,
for those who want glamour and
peace of mind, though the central
location is what’s making other
hotel owners green with envy.
It’s easy walking distance to La
Rambla, the harbour and all the
other action in this beautiful city.

LISBON
New 50-room Mercy Hotel, In the
Chiado area of the city, opened in a
shroud of mystery at the beginning
of this month: the only thing on its
website was a picture of sunrise
as seen from the hilltop venue.
However, it’s been enough to rouse
plenty of interest in this five-star
restaurant and hotel with terrace
bar.
