TRAVELLER
WHERE TO EAT
No trip would be complete
without a lunch or two on the
mountain. The classic high-
altitude dining experience
is at Cabane Mont-Fort, a
traditional mountain refuge with
spectacular views, located off the
red run to La Chaux. You can
even stay overnight. Back down
in town, a popular spot is Le
Rouge (37 Rue de Ransou), run
by the charming Raphaël and his
girlfriend, Natasha. Despite being
in the heart of things, it’s still ski
in/ski out and we defy you not to
find something in the selection,
which ranges from a full à la carte
menu to crêpes. Definitely worth
skiing down to for lunch and,
who knows, with its fur rugs and
real log fires, you may just stay all
afternoon. In town, L’Ecurie is a
genteel choice, serving excellent
rosti and game options, while for
local dishes, try Au Vieux Verbier
by the Médran lifts. And for a
different experience altogether,
take the snow taxi (like a piste-
bashing minibus – up to 10 CHF
per person) to one of the several
slope-side restaurants that open
at night – Chez Dany, Marlenaz,
Le Namasté and La Marmotte.
We guarantee the ski back into
town is all the more pleasurable
after a glass or two.
