“I warn people of potential pitfalls, give them a good
sense of the area, with the pros and cons. For example,
Valencia is a very noisy city and I say that. There’s no
point trying to make everything look rosy. Develop
the right kind of relationship with clients and the
properties sell themselves.” His approach appears to be
working. Since 2008, when he made his business more
web-centred, things have been getting better for him
each year, with 2011 the best yet.
Further south, in the Costa Blanca area, Nigel
Salmon of Girasol Homes (

) is also
having a bumper year, likewise using the internet as
a marketing tool and point of contact with clients. So
far, he’s been able to carry out his business from the
UK, but things are going so well that he’s looking to
open an office in the area.
According to Salmon, the southern Costa Blanca
and Murcia coastal areas tend to attract different
kinds of people than Valencia, but after a few bad
years, with prices falling, he insists that today there’s
a lot of potential.
“We’re still looking mainly at holiday homes
and properties for retirees,” he says, “but Murcia is
poised to take off with the building of the Paramount
theme park.”
Due to open in 2015, at a cost of over a billion euros,
the Paramount Pictures Theme Park is set to be the
biggest of its kind in Europe and a rival to Disneyland
Paris. Add to that the new airport at Corvera and a
proposed high-speed rail link to Madrid, and people
are looking to buy. It looks like the sun is again shining
over this part of Spain.

CENTRAL VALENCIA
With views over a landscaped river bed, this
three-bedroom, fourth-floor flat is next to
the old city gates of Torres de Serrano and
