hard to believe it is nearly two years since
the volcanowith the unpronounceable
name erupted in Iceland and disrupted
flights across Europe. Since then, we have
beenworking hard on new technology that
will help keep you flying safely in the event
of another eruption.AVOID (Airborne
Volcanic Object Imaging Detector) is a
system that uses infra-red sensors to help
pilots detect ash in their flightpath and
avoid any cloud.We’re proud that we’re
the first airline to develop this, andwe’re
committed to finding newways, wherever
possible, tominimise disruption for you.
The comingmonths will see other
exciting developments too –we’ll be
connecting evenmore passengers across
Europe in 2012. FromMarch, we’ll start
flying to Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, famed
for its natural beauty and hot springs.We
are also opening four newbases inApril:
Lisbon – linking Portugal’s capital to five
additional leisure and business destinations
;
Toulouse andNice in France, and, of
course, London Southend.
Thismonth also sees us celebrating our
23rdmillionth passenger flying through
Berlin – a real achievement in just seven
years.Anew airport is opening there inMay
andwe’ll be an important part of that too.

¿Puedes creer que ya han
pasado casi dos años desde
la erupción volcánica en Islandia que
trastocó los vuelos de toda Europa?
Desde entonces hemos trabajado
duro para ser los primeros en ofrecer
nuevas tecnologías que te permitirán
volar aunque se produzca otra erupción
volcánica. El sistema AVOID (Airborne
Volcanic Object Imaging Detector o
Detector Infrarrojo de Ceniza Volcánica)
utiliza una tecnología de rayos infrar-
rojos que ayuda a los pilotos a detectar
la ceniza en la trayectoria del vuelo
y las nubes que pudiera formar. Nos
enorgullece ser la primera aerolínea en
desarrollar este avance, y tenemos un
total compromiso con las innovaciones
que permitan reducir los contratiempos
para vosotros.
Durante los próximos meses, nuestra
red también experimentará algunas
fantásticas novedades. En abril inaugu-
raremos cuatro nuevas bases: Lisboa,
que conectará la capital portuguesa con
otros cinco destinos de ocio y negocios,
Toulouse y Niza en Francia, y Londres
Southend.

islandese? Sembra incredibile:
sono già passati due anni e il ricordo è
lontano nel tempo.
Noi non ce ne siamo mai dimenticati.
Paradossalmente la paralisi che il
vulcano ha provocato ci ha messi ancora
più in movimento e abbiamo deciso che
ciò che si è verificato nell’aprile del 2010
non sarebbe più dovuto ripetersi.
Abbiamo così sviluppato AVOID
(Airborne Volcanic Object Detector) che,
tramite gli infrarossi, permette ai piloti di
individuare ceneri sulla rotta ed evitare
qualsiasi nuvola.
Siamo la prima linea aerea ad av-
valersi di questa tecnologia e ne molto
orgogliosi.
Ma le novità non finisco qui.
I prossimi mesi vedranno degli
sviluppi interessanti anche per quanto
riguarda la nostra rete di collegamenti.
In aprile apriremo quattro nuove basi:
Lisbona, per collegare la capitale del
Portogallo con cinque ulteriori desti-
nazioni chiave per il tempo libero e gli
affari, Tolosa e Nizza in Francia e Londra
Southend.

deux ans que le volcan islandais entrait
en éruption avec toutes les perturba-
tions de vols que cela entraînait en
Europe. Depuis cette date, nous avons
consacré tous nos efforts pour créer une
technologie de pointe qui vous permet-
tra de prendre votre avion même en
cas d’éruption volcanique. Le système
AVOID (Airborne Volcanic Object Imag-
ing Detector) est un système utilisant
la technologie infrarouge permettant
d’aider les pilotes à détecter les cendres
sur leur trajet de vol et d’éviter ainsi
les nuages. Nous sommes fiers d’être
la première compagnie aérienne à
avoir créé un tel système et nous
nous engageons à innover autant que
possible afin de réduire au maximum les
perturbations.
Au cours des prochains mois,
nous sommes impatients d’ajouter de
nouvelles destinations à notre réseau.
En avril, nous ouvrirons quatre nouvelles
bases : Lisbonne, pour relier la capitale
