with long strolls, picnics and

in June, it’s all about strained
muscles, energy drinks and one
of the most fearsome physical
challenges known toman: the
triathlon. On 2 June, competitors
will face a 1.9km swim, a 90km
bike ride and a thigh-busting
21km run, while the following
day’s race is for the fainter of
heart –merely a 1.5km swim,
38kmbike ride and 10km run.
After that lot, even spectators will
deserve their wine and cheese.

There’ll be celluloid thrills galore
on 17 April as one of Europe’s
best short-film festivals opens
in Saxony’s capital. The full
five-day programme won’t be
announced until March, but
screenings will take place at
venues around town, including
the German Institute for
Animated Film and the Film
Theatre Schauburg. Aprize fund
of about €60,000 attracts top
directorial talent, who submit
work in a variety of genres, so
no one knows whether it will be
cartoons or thrillers that grab
the fest’s Golden Horsemen
awards each year.
